Glad to be Gladiating

Friday... we went to Seegrotte Hinterbruhl

It's the largest underground lake in Europe

During WWII they drained the lake and brought in Italian prisoners from Mauthausen to build some of the first jet planes.

Austria National Library...thanks to prince Eugene
 Strauss in Stadt park

Maria Theresia's dog... the actual dog
Natural History museum.... all the dinosaurs are from Utah nbd... and Venus of Willendorf is in here... the first piece of art ever found

Karls Kirche... our history professor is also photographed.  He is Indiana Jones in real life... seriously

They are restoring the frescos on the inside and have opened up the scaffolding to the public...legit

Karlsplatz Ubahn station oper exit... musical stairs.  They are hooked up to speakers and you can play the piano as you musically prance up the stairs
Butterfly house... Shelley, Elysse, and Lyndsi photographed
 LEAVES!!!!!

We went to Carnuntum on Saturday.. It's old roman ruins. They just recently discovered a colosseum that apparently is larger than the one in Rome but it's still being excavated so we checked out a smaller amphitheater

One of our friends works for a professional volleyball team here and she brought along one of her friends... aka we hung out with a professional athlete all day
 Gladiators... legit
Fall has just about officially left and it's sehr kalt (super cold) now... Christmas markets opened up this weekend though!
 Beethoven
 Staatsoper museum... Der Rosenkavalier anyone?
Our host frau, Lilo, took us to see the Vienna Phil perform.  They played Brahms Piano concerto No. 1 and Symphonic Dances by Rachmoninov... the second movement of the Brahms is the most beautiful piece of music ever! best bassoon part EVER!
Only three weeks left! Ah! Time is flying by way too quickly
