Salzburg and such

This past weekend we traveled as a whole group to Salzburg/Munich with a few stops along the way.  Here are some highlights:

laundry... plan ahead two whole days minimum since they don't have dryers in Austria

 Mauthausen concentration camp...working camp

 It was super sobering...

they carried huge slabs of granite from this quarry all day...

Who was married here... Maria von Trapp!!! (in the movie)

the group at Hellbrun palace (questionable spelling)

there are hidden fountains everywhere...the tour guide had way too much fun surprising twenty loud american girls by spraying them when least expected

I am sixteen going on seventeen

I have confidence

The von Trapps lived here in the movie...NBD

our hotel in Salzburg had a harry potter room...our room was literally the size of a cupboard under the stairs.  As Shelley would say, the sorting hat did me well with a fun roommate

 sew, a needle pulling thread

far, a long long way to run

tea, a drink with jam and bread

I'm the only child except for my sister

 Salzburg

 Mozart's birth house

on top of the Hohensalzburg fortress

Munich...
Parliament...waiting for the glockenspiel...the largest one in the world

the Deutsches museum...they had anything and everything including lots of musical instruments...tail wag!

on top of some church in Munich looking over the city... yes we walked all the way to the top...sure puts the stair master to shame

 Oktoberfest!!!!!!

waiting for the ferry to go see the palace Herrenchiemsee...a partial replica of Versailles
 some favorite purchases

Up at Eagles Nest... you can see Salzburg

 Where Hitler used to live
The bible of the first member of the LDS church in Austria...we went to his farm house in Haag and saw some documents and where they held the first meetings in Austria... our program director Dr. Minert was having puppies.
we didn't find it as interesting so we had ample artistic picture time

It was a super fun trip... Singing the sound of music soundtrack all throughout Austria on a bus with twenty friends- can't get much better.  All the WWII sights made me super grateful to live in America...very sobering.  So long, farewell, auf wedersehen, good bye!

  3. First of all, thanks for another great post Frauline Moreton!

Mathausen is super sobering. I remember going there and being face to face with the gas chambers. Still gives me a stomach ache to think about.

Haha I also rememeber Hellbrun. It is so random.

Your pictures look gorgeous! Looks like you guys are having great weather! Cant wait for the next update. Give Austria a big hug a kiss for me!
